West Indies' tour of England is set to get the go ahead from cricket bosses in the Caribbean on Thursday.

Cricket West Indies board will be told in detail of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s “robust and safe plan” and ratify cricket’s first international tour since the coronavirus pandemic.

Should, as expected, bosses give the thumbs-up to a 25-man touring party to play in England, the ECB will officially give Cricket West Indies a formal offer ahead of chartering a plane to fly the squad over on June 8.

They are expected to be based initially at Old Trafford in a 14-day quarantine where it is hoped they will be allowed to train and play warm-up matches before a first test a month later.

CWI chief executive Johnny Grave said: “From where we sit at the moment, based on the information we have, based on the fact that every day there are less and less cases in the UK, everyone is getting increasingly confident that the tour will happen at some point.

“Our board meeting is on May 28. If the tour has to take place by the start of June we would need to have the board approval and support by then in order to get the charter flight logistics in place and select the players.”
