This the moment a cricket commentator’s pleasure at watching a player hit a six rapidly turned to alarm as the ball smashed into the roof of his car.

The unfortunate turn of events transpired during a Twenty20 game in New Zealand when Jesse Ryder, batsman for the Otago Volts, hit a huge six, easily clearing the boundaries.

“That’s out of the ground, that’s gone, it’s downtown,” said an impressed Smith as the shot was still in the air.

But as the ball fell, Smith was hit by a sudden realisation: “It’s on my car!

“I think it hit my car! Oh, the downside of getting to park so close. Oh no!

“It’s a rental,” Smith continued. “For God’s sake, Jesse.

“Another report – it’s not the first one, I suppose.

“Usually it’s a scrape on the door… how am I going to explain that? At least I have evidence.”

After the initial shock, however, Smith began to wonder whether it had in fact hit his car.

“[The car’s] the same colour. It’s round about the same place.

“I know that I parked it there about five hours ago… I don’t think I was that far down.

“For some reason I was more behind the hotdog stand, 30 yards back.

“I might be ok.”
