Moises Henriques has rejoined Surrey two years after he was involved in a frightening accident when playing for the county.

The Australian all-rounder was fielding in a Twenty20 fixture against Sussex at Arundel in June 2015 when he collided with team-mate Rory Burns. Henriques broke his jaw in three places and spent the night in hospital.

Luckily, Henriques made a full recovery and will now spend part of the coming summer at The Kia Oval, playing in the domestic T20 competition, the NatWest Blast. Henriques will replace Kumar Sangakkara, who will be competing in the Caribbean Premier League.

“I’m really happy to be returning to Surrey, a great club where I really enjoyed myself in 2015. As well as feeling like I’ve got a bit of unfinished business, the NatWest T20 Blast is well established as one of the top T20 competitions in the world and I’m really looking forward to playing against some of the world’s best cricketers in front of sold out London crowds at the Kia Oval.”

Alec Stewart, Surrey director of Cricket, added: “It’s great to have Moises back at Surrey after his injury in 2015. As well as being a quality individual, he has great T20 experience from all around the world and will add plenty of balance to our side.”

Henriques is captain of both New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers. He scored 263 runs for the Sixers in the most recent edition of the Big Bash.
