Mark Wood undergoes successful surgery after leaving England’s tour of West Indies

England fast bowler Mark Wood has had a successful operation in London to remove “bone and scar tissue” in his right elbow.

Wood flew home from England’s tour of West Indies last week having pulled up injured in the drawn First Test in Antigua.

He was ruled out of the series and the Indian Premier League, where he had a contract worth £735,000 with Lucknow Supergiants.

“The surgery removed bone and scar tissue to address an impingement problem that was causing pain in his elbow when bowling,” read an ECB statement.

“He will now commence rehabilitation with the ECB and Durham. A date for his return to play will be established in due course.”

It its expected that Wood will be out for at least six weeks, with his return expected to be in the Vitality Blast with Durham, meaning he appears unlikely to feature in England’s Test series against New Zealand in June.
