England’s World Cup-winning captains Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan have this morning announced the launch of a new London-based cricket festival.

The Festival of Cricket, also backed by England men’s head coach Brendon McCullum, will take place at Gunnersbury Park near Chiswick in July next year.

The event will feature live music, food and cricket-based entertainment such as interactive challenges and showcases. In addition to the headline trio, a number of cricket stars past and present have already confirmed attendance, including Moeen Ali, Mark Butcher and Isa Guha.

The launch comes just days after Buttler’s T20 side beat Pakistan in Melbourne to claim World Cup glory, England becoming the first men’s side to hold both white-ball world titles concurrently after Morgan led the historic 50-over triumph of 2019.

“The love and interest in the game has never been greater, and I’m excited and proud to be able to bring some of my friends together, to create an event that I hope will show the public what a fabulous sport cricket truly is, in all its various formats,” Morgan said.

The event, which takes place from July 14-16, in the midst of next summer’s dual Ashes series, will celebrate “the traditional red ball format and the new more recent forms of the game”.

Morgan added: “Cricket is changing, and I want the festival to embrace the old and new to welcome visitors from all walks of life to share in my personal passion.”
