Graeme Smith was today omitted from the South Africa squad for next month’s Twenty20 World Cup.

The Proteas Test captain celebrated the birth of his first child last month and has not been included in the 15-man party for the tournament in Sri Lanka.

Smith, 31, has not played a T20 international since October 2011 but was still named in a 30-man provisional squad. All-rounder Jacques Kallis has been selected.

South Africa, who currently lead England 1-0 going into the final Test at Lord’s next Thursday, will play three T20 games against England next month.
