England will share a record prize pot approaching £2million if they win the Champions Trophy next month.

Eoin Morgan’s team are favourites for the tournament, which would be their first major 50-over global title, and the 15 players will pocket close to £130,000 each if the winnings are divided equally among the squad.

India collected $2million (£1.3m by June 2013 exchange rates) when they won the trophy four years ago and Standard Sport understands the ICC will allocate more than that to the winning side this time around, with the prize money moving towards the $2.5m (£1.93m) mark.

The England players are also likely to receive a performance-related bonus within their ECB contracts if they deliver the trophy.

Once divided, the individual sums will still be dwarfed by the £1.7m contract handed to England all-rounder Ben Stokes to play for Rising Pune Supergiant in this year’s Indian Premier League. England’s campaign begins when they meet Bangladesh at The Kia Oval on June 1.

Meanwhile, coach Trevor Bayliss admits England’s IPL players may not be at their best for the Champions Trophy because of their involvement in the Twenty20 franchise tournament.

Stokes, Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler were permitted to miss the two one-day internationals against Ireland to stay with Rising Pune Supergiant, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians respectively, while Sam Billings and captain Eoin Morgan are also heading back to India for a short period.

The intense schedule of the IPL — and the sheer size of the country — means the tournament can take its toll on minds and bodies. The IPL players return on May 14 to link up with their team-mates, before leaving for a training camp in southern Spain on May 15. England begin their three-match one-day series against South Africa at Headingley on May 24.

Warning: Bayliss says IPL players might not be up to scratch in Champions Trophy

Asked whether the IPL players may be tired when England start their Champions Trophy bid, Bayliss said: “That’s a risk we’ve taken with a view that if they compete in a tough environment, it would be good for us long term. It was a concern that a few of them wouldn’t have much rest but we took the view that long term it would be good for them. From our point of view, the money they are earning has nothing to do with it. It was more to do with the experience they would get, playing in that environment in front of big crowds. It will help them.

“This year’s IPL was a bit shorter than the ones I’ve been to in the past.

“The three boys still there have been playing pretty well and I’ve not heard any negatives coming from them.

“Our medical team and [assistant coach] Paul Farbrace have been in regular contact with them. They’re going well and looking forward to being back with the England boys again.”
