Middlesex have confirmed that England batsman Dawid Malan has left the club to join Yorkshire.

Malan stepped down as captain at the end of the season, but was the club’s player of the year. He was still under contract but Middlesex have agreed to release him.

Malan played 15 Tests before being dropped in 2018, but is in England’s T20 squad in New Zealand.

Angus Fraser, Managing Director of Cricket, hailed Malan as “a modern Middlesex great”.

“Dawid has been an invaluable member of the team for 13 seasons, scoring runs consistently across all three formats. His loyalty and commitment to Middlesex has been without question,” said Fraser.

“It is sad that he has now decided to continue his career elsewhere, but he will always be recognised as a modern Middlesex great and everyone associated with the club will wish him every success in the future.”

Malan said: “I have enjoyed 13 happy and successful years at Middlesex, and I am hugely grateful to everyone at the club - staff, players and supporters - for their support during this period. I am privileged to have played for so long.

“However, this feels like the right time to start a new adventure, and I am excited by the prospect of joining another great club in English cricket.”

It is understood that Peter Handscomb, the Australia batsman, will join Middlesex as overseas player and captain for the 2020 season as the club look to replace Malan’s runs.
