The ECB have revealed early details of next summer’s new competition The Hundred as they unveiled a logo and website, and announced that the player draft will take place on October 20.

A tweet from north London cricket club Stoke Newington CC included a picture of children with a cricket bat with the competition logo on it and read: “Hi everyone! Guess what?! We have been chosen to unveil the logo for #TheHundred, cricket’s new competition starting next summer.”

The website — thehundred.com — invites fans to register to hear more about tickets but had had a key image replaced within two hours of its launch after eagle-eyed internet users spotted it was a stock photo taken at an American rap show in 2017.

The competition will have separate men’s and women’s events, and the men’s draft will be on October 20 at Sky Studios in west London and be broadcast from 7pm on Sky, the Hundred’s main broadcasters, and across the BBC, which will also show some matches. The eight teams will each have 15 players, including at least three from overseas.

The ECB are also beginning to be more open with the research that has prompted the inception of The Hundred, which includes the fact that those who attend cricket in the UK are overwhelmingly male (82%), white (94%), affluent (65% ABC1) and have an average age of 50. 75% of families said they would prefer a shorter game that is finished by 9pm.

It is understood that the ECB have decided on the names of around six of the eight teams, and a couple are yet to be decided.
