The ECB have launched their Cricket Remembers campaign to commemorate the memories of those who fought in the First World War ahead of Armistice Day.
County cricket was suspended between 1914 and 1919 with at least 210 cricketers serving their country.
This Sunday, the sport will join nationwide commemorations which will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the war.
As part of a partnership between the ECB, the MCC and charity Remembered, a Tommy silhouette has been installed at Lord’s in front of the Warner Stand to commemorate the dead and to educate all generations about the sacrifice made.
“Cricket Remembers highlights the contribution made by people from cricket to the nation’s war effort,” said ECB CEO Tom Harrison.
“We can only imagine the courage of those who went to fight and it is important that we commemorate their sacrifice.
“Through this campaign, we hope all followers of cricket can join us in remembering those from the game who played their part in the First World War.”
The ECB have also commissioned cricket historian David Frith to create a collection of the remarkable stories of the County players who fought in the First World War.
