Brad Haddin today became the fifth member of Australia’s Ashes squad to announce his retirement from Test cricket.

Haddin joins former captain Michael Clarke, Ryan Harris, Chris Rogers and Shane Watson in calling time on his Test career with Australia.

Wicketkeeper Haddin withdrew from the Lord’s Test — the second of the series — to be with his daughter, Mia, who was receiving treatment in a London hospital. The Australian selectors retained Haddin’s replacement, Peter Nevill, for the three matches that followed and today Haddin, 37, confirmed he would step down.

“I was unable to take the field with the 100 per cent focus I needed,” he said. “I put myself in a position to lose my spot and I don’t regret that. I’ve had a privileged run but I lost the hunger.”
