Coppell sights on Dons

Leo Spall13 April 2012

Steve Coppell has made his interest in the vacant Wimbledon manager's job known to the club but is not the front runner for the post.

The Brentford boss is considering his options after apparently deciding the Griffin Park outfit cannot match his ambitions.

The Second Division club's board decided yesterday they wanted to do everything they can to keep him after he guided the team to third place in the table and the play-off final.

Chairman Ron Noades is set to offer him an improved deal to stay but will not be able to offer him a transfer fund for new players.

Coppell, who is not under contract and has also been linked with the vacant managerial position at Brighton, may not make a decision on his future until he returns from the summer holiday he was due to leave for today.

By the time he comes back Wimbledon should know if they are allowed to move to Milton Keynes. A three-man Football Association panel started the decision-making process today.
