Constantine handed Brentford chance

13 April 2012

New Brentford manager Wally Downes has handed Leon Constantine the chance to replace Sheffield Wednesday-bound striker Lloyd Owusu.

Downes knows out-of-contract Owusu, Brentford's leading scorer last season, will leave the club this summer, with Wednesday leading the race to sign him.

He has given 24-year-old striker Constantine, released by Millwall at the end of the season, a trial at Griffin Park in a bid to find an immediate replacement.

Downes said: "Our chief scout John Griffin arranged for Leon to come down to us for a few weeks. We'll take a look at him and then see what happens."

Mick McGuire has been appointed sole deputy chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association.

The former Norwich midfielder previously held the position jointly with Brendon Batsen, who leaves this week to become managing director of newlypromoted Premiership club West Bromwich Albion.
