Coltart airborne at last with albatross

14 April 2012

Andrew Coltart, who has failed to make a halfway cut in six tournament appearances this season, made a stunning start to the Madeira Open today.

Starting from the 10th, Coltart birdied his first hole and carded an albatross two on the 11th to go four under par.

The former Ryder Cup player holed out with a six-iron from 226 yards on the 572-yard par five to jump into an early two-shot lead.

He reached the turn in 32, easily his best golf of 2005 in which he has so far failed to break 70 in any round.

England's Gary Emerson also made light of the 11th with an eagle three to move into a share of second alongside another ex-Ryder Cup player Peter Baker.
