Cole: I'll add spark to England

Joe Cole believes he showed enough in his favourite role to be given another chance in England's next warm-up friendly against Portugal in February.

The 22-year-old Chelsea star played all but the last 15 minutes of the 3-2 defeat by Denmark and scored his second international goal.

Cole said: "I loved it. We were disappointed with the result but if I keep on scoring and making goals I'll get a run in the team, I'm sure.

"I will be disappointed if I'm not involved in the next match because I have complete faith in my ability and I feel I bring something different to the team."

Sven-Goran Eriksson was also impressed with Cole and said: "Joe is another great talent. He is getting better and better and his quality is incredible."

However, Cole was dispossessed in the move which led to Denmark's first goal and Eriksson said: "He still has things to learn about the game."

Midfielder Cole admitted he lost the ball but said: "I was a long way up the pitch and you're going to lose the ball sometimes."

Eriksson commented: "There were a lot of good qualities out there and Joe was one of them. He is another great talent. But he has still to learn things about the game."

Asked if his role in the build-up to the first goal was exactly the kind of lesson that Cole needs to learn, Eriksson said: "Yes, but you learn when you are young and he's a big talent."

Cole said: "I've always said that playing in the hole behind the front two is my best position. It was good to see the youngsters out there and I thought I linked well with Wayne Rooney."

Cole was one of six Chelsea players on the Old Trafford pitch at one stage, with Frank Lampard, who was again impressive, John Terry, Wayne Bridge and Glen Johnson playing for England and Jesper Gronkjaer in the Denmark team.

Cole said: "It was good that we had five out there for England at one point. We all live within five minutes of each other and we're a tight unit."

"Defensively, we were not as good as we've been in the past and must learn from that. But I'm sure that when we go to Portugal, we will not defend like we did against Denmark," added Eriksson.
