Chelsea eye Anelka amid Drogba unrest

13 April 2012

Chelsea are considering a surprise move for Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka.

The France striker was destined for Portsmouth in the summer before being offered an improved £70,000-a-week contract.

Chelsea interest: Anelka

Earlier this week Anelka voiced support for new manager Gary Megson, vowing to help Bolton climb up the table, but his scoring record has made him a target for bigger clubs.

He has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Valencia but Chelsea are willing to move first in January and are considering a £12million bid.

They are wary of losing Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba, who has intimated he wants to leave and Anelka, 28, fits the bill as a suitable replacement.

Bolton will not be willing sellers but know the money they can recoup on the man they bought for £8m 14 months ago can help to rebuild a struggling squad.

Anelka has made no secret of his desire to play in the Champions League and would jump at the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
