Champions are going to keep double act alive

13 April 2012

Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor plan to remain partners next season after winning the ATP World Tour Finals doubles title at the O2 yesterday.

The third seeds were comfortable 7-5, 6-3 winners over Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

It is the fourth time that Canadian Nester has claimed the title, having done so with Mark Knowles, in 2007, and Nenad Zimonjic, in 2008 and 2010.

Mirnyi has also won the title, with Jonas Bjorkman in 2006, and the Belarussian is keen to keep their winning team together.

"Yes, we will play together next year," he said. "We will have a little break now, then start our circuit in Australia. We're looking forward to improving little things here and there."

And his partner Nestor warned the rest of the tour the best may be to come from the pair.

"We're learning from our mistakes," he said. "I think little things we learn from putting more balls in play, as well, and staying aggressive at the same time. One thing for us, I think it's important to keep playing."
