Chambers off to a flyer

14 April 2012

Dwain Chambers started his challenge to regain the European 100metres gold medal he was stripped of last month with a convincing victory in his first-round heat on Monday morning.

Chambers had the medal taken away after admitting he had won it during a period when he was using the designer substance THG.

The British sprinter showed no signs of the thigh injury which saw him pull out of last month's UK trials final, clocking 10.24 seconds - the fastest time of the morning session.

Chambers' performance came on a good day for his fellow British sprinters.

Tyrone Edgar and Mark Lewis-Francis easily won their qualifiers in times of 10.32secs and 10.37secs respectively.
