Caroline Wozniacki defies sceptics and stays on top of the world

Caroline Wozniacki secured the year-end world No1 ranking after rallying to beat Italy's Francesca Schiavone 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 and book her place in the semi-finals of the WTA Championships in Doha.

The Dane, 20, has won more titles (six) and matches (61) than any other player in 2010 but has never been a Grand Slam champion.

"To be honest, there will be always sceptics," she said. "If I win a Slam, people will say it was an easy draw. The most important thing for me is that I know I had a great season."
