Carberry out of Australia trip

Michael Carberry

Hampshire's Michael Carberry has been ruled out of the England Performance Programme's trip to Australia.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the opener has been undergoing treatment for blood clots and shortness of breath and has been advised against taking long-haul flights.

Carberry, who had a fine domestic season for Hampshire, could have come into consideration if form or fitness became an issue at the top of England's order and his absence could help the off-colour Alastair Cook sleep easier.

Despite made his Test debut in Bangladesh earlier this year Carberry did not appear for England during the summer and was not in the 16-man Ashes squad. Instead he was selected as part of the EPP, who will shadow the senior side until December 17.

Carberry's club-mate Jimmy Adams will travel with the EPP, but there are no other capped alternatives Down Under unless Jonathan Trott moves up the order from three.

The EPP, who will be based in Australia from November 11 to December 17, have not added a replacement.
