Sports minister Richard Caborn has revealed he will be writing to his Spanish counterpart today to express his outrage at the racist abuse suffered by England's black players last night,

writes Andrew Hodgson.

Caborn will also urge FIFA and UEFA to investigate the racist chants aimed at Ashley Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Caborn said: "I was absolutely appalled by the reaction of the crowd and I will be writing to the Spanish sports minister to express my outrage at their behaviour.

"I would like to see him ask the Spanish FA to condemn the scenes we witnessed in the Bernabeu.

"I also expect FIFA and UEFA to fully investigate the issue. There is no place for racism in football or modern society, and I strongly believe that action needs to be taken

The friendly in Madrid has been overshadowed by the issue of racism.

Spain coach Luis Aragones refused to back down over the comments he made about Thierry Henry and black players were targeted by fans in the England Under-21s match on Tuesday as well as last night.

Now the pressure will grow on UEFA and FIFA to take action.
