Byrne equal to the challenge of Crutchlow at Thruxton

Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow took victories in the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Thruxton. Former champion Byrne led at halfway in the opening race from Crutchlow and went on to win by two seconds.

The HM Plant Honda rider got his revenge in the second race to clinch his maiden victory since moving into the top flight last year.

Byrne was second and jointly leads the series with Crutchlow, while Michael Rutter is lying in third spot
