Butcher in car crash Test scare

13 April 2012

Mark Butcher was today having a medical to see if the whiplash effects from a car crash will rule him out of the First Test against the West Indies at Lord's on Thursday.

England batsman Butcher was travelling to see his Surrey club physiotherapist for treatment on a torn thigh muscle when he was reportedly hit from behind at 40mph as drove through south London towards The Oval.

The extent of the whiplash was being determined today and his run of 42 consecutive Test appearances is under threat.

He said: "I'll just have to see what the medics say, because I've got no idea how it's going to affect me. The first thing will be to see how I feel in the morning."
