Burley has duo in his sights

12 April 2012

Terry Butcher and Steven Pressley appear to be on the verge of joining George Burley's backroom staff after holding talks with the new Scotland manager.

Both men are well known to Burley, who hopes they will accept invitations to become the two coaches he is able to bring in.

Speaking before he went into talks with Burley, Butcher said: "I'm quite open about things. I played at Ipswich in the same side as George and have kept in touch with him - and it is great for him to ask me about the post with Scotland."

Burley has confirmed they are the two men he wants, and former England captain Butcher has flown back to his homeland from Glasgow to consider the offer.

Forty-nine-year-old Butcher lost his job as Brentford manager in December but has confirmed his interest in joining up with Scotland - even if the prospect of bringing in an Englishman has divided the nation.

"It is a part-time role which would enable me to do other stuff as well," added Butcher.

"I have done everything in my career. But this would be new and different, being involved on the coaching side at international level. Let's have a look at things."
