Leeds forward Luke Burgess is set to miss the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final after breaking his jaw.

The 23-year-old prop suffered the injury in last night's win at Castleford and is expected to miss the Wembley showpiece with Warrington on August 28 as a result. The injury occurred after a collision with Castleford's Jonathan Walker during Leeds' 38-6 win at the Jungle, with Burgess being rushed straight to hospital.

Burgess, the brother of England and South Sydney star Sam, posted photos of the injury on his Twitter account from the back of an ambulance and later confirmed on the site that his jaw was "broken in two places" and that he was to be operated on Saturday.

"We are all feeling devastated for Biffa because we have got some big games coming up and he's been working really hard," said Rhinos coach Brian McClennan.

"It was a shoulder charge. That's the outcome when two young blokes collide at such speed."

Castleford boss Terry Matterson was quick to clear his player of any blame and admitted that the result meant nothing compared to Burgess' injury.

"Jonathan has got a shoulder charge on him, although there was certainly no malice in it," he said.

"But I feel for Luke Burgess because it's going to cost him a Wembley appearance. The result sort of pales into all significance after that."

Sam Burgess who will line up for Souths against Melbourne on Saturday, said via his Twitter account: "Gutted for my older brother Luke who made Wembley last weekend and has broken his jaw this weekend. Out for the season."
