Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a winning start to the NFL season by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 17-0 in their new Lincoln Financial Field stadium.

"When you come to a place like this you gotta collect rent," said defensive tackle Warren Sapp, who also set up the second of Joe Jurevicius's touchdowns.

Brad Johnson set up the first but Martin Gramatica had the honour of scoring the first points in the Eagles' new ground with a 23-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Sylvester Stallone led the pre-game cheers for Philadelphia but after LJ Smith failed to hold on to Koy Detmer's long throw into the end zone, the Eagles were never in the game.
