Broncos appeal to Charlton

William Kings13 April 2012

London Broncos are pinning their hopes on landlords Charlton following reports that Sir Richard Branson is about to sever ties with the club.

Lancashire side Leigh are ready to replace Broncos in Super League next season if, as reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Standard, Branson pulls the plug after four years as chairman.

Branson has an 80 per cent stake in the club but Broncos director David Hughes, who holds the other 20 per cent, is also on the Charlton board.

Broncos chief executive Lionel Hurst said today: "It has always been my dream for Charlton to run both the clubs."

Broncos commercial director Nic Cartwright said: "Charlton have been helpful. If we can show them the club is viable, I'm sure they would be interested."
