Brits bag relay bronze

12 April 2012

Great Britain's men bagged a sprint relay bronze in a dramatic 4x100metres final at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka.

The British quartet of Christian Malcolm, Craig Pickering, Marlon Devonish and Mark Lewis-Francis, who clocked a season's best time of 37.90 seconds, were just pipped to the silver by Jamaica.

Tyson Gay collected his third gold medal as Team USA (37.78secs) overcame a couple of awkward exchanges to clinch the title.

In the 4x400m relay, both Great Britain teams secured a place in Sunday's finals.

The women's quartet finished second behind the United States in their heat, while the men finished fourth in their heat - just outside an automatic qualifying berth.

But after nervously watching a slower second heat they secured a fastest loser spot with the fourth fastest time overall.
