Impressive run: Richard Bloomfield

Britain's Richard Bloomfield claimed another scalp as he reached the quarter-finals of the Hall of Fame Championships at Rhode Island.

Bloomfield is No552 in the rankings but that did not stop him stunning Santiago Giraldo, beating the world No56 from Colombia 6-3, 7-6.

The 27-year-old had to qualify for the event but had already shown he was in form by beating 65th ranked Christophe Rochus in the first round.

Bloomfield now plays American Ryan Harrison for a place in the semi-finals of the grass-court event.

There was another surprise as top seed Sam Querrey lost 6-4, 6‑3 to world No105 Dustin Brown.

The Jamaican, who is interested in representing Britain, needed just 47 minutes to beat this year's Queen's champion.

This was Brown's first victory over a top-20 player, however, Querrey was far from impressed with his opponent's tactics.

"Half the time I was walking over to the other side and the ball was in the air for him to serve," said the world No19 from America.
