Bresnan not getting carried away

Tim Bresnan could be forgiven for thinking he knows exactly how to bowl on the sub-continent - but the England seamer is too canny for any such complacency.

Bresnan, who has become a lynchpin of the pace attack set to take on Ireland in the World Cup Group B match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, needed all his nous and skill against India at the same venue on Sunday.

"There is not a lot of margin for error on these wickets," said Bresnan.

The Yorkshireman was rewarded with figures of five for 48 - conspicuously the most economical as well as successful bowler in an epic encounter, tied after a competition record aggregate of 676 runs.

While James Anderson was dispatched for more than 90 runs in under 10 overs, Bresnan at one point even achieved the notable feat of bowling a maiden to Sachin Tendulkar when the master batsman was in full flight.

Bresnan is not getting carried away, though - because he knows bowling in these conditions can be a thankless task.

"Personally I was thinking 'Try to keep it on the island' - although that can prove difficult," he said.

England scrambled an opening six-wicket victory over Holland on a batsman's surface in Nagpur, and both fixtures provided a significant challenge for all the bowlers.

"The Holland pitch was a very good wicket, and the one the other night was probably the best we've ever seen," said Bresnan.

"It wasn't swinging a great deal up top and it's not really moving off the seam, so it's quite difficult to take wickets without using variations. You have to try to mix it up as much as you can and create pressure and take wickets that way."
