Anthony Yarde insists he is ready to fight for a world title but is opting instead to extend his boxing education.

The unbeaten Ilford-based light heavyweight seeks his 17th straight win against Argentine Walter Gabriel Sequeira at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.

Only one opponent has survived the distance against the 27-year-old east London prospect - and that was in his second fight as a novice professional against Latvian Stanislavs Makarenko in 2015.

Anticipation is already building about a potential clash between Yarde and exciting Croydon light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi, who is managed by London’s world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Buatsi, 25, won a bronze at the Rio Olympics for Britain at light-heavyweight and scored a stunning eighth straight professional win with a first round stoppage of Frenchman Tony Averlant in Newcastle last weekend.

Yarde will be seeking another profile-building explosive finish against the 31-year-old Sequeria from Buenos Aires who has a record of 21 wins and four defeats.

Yarde said: ‘“I could fight for a world title and win it, but it is about getting to that stage and staying there. I had 12 amateur fights and I’ve had just 16 professional fights so I am inexperienced.

“I want ten years in boxing and I have been professional for three years, so with seven years left there is no rush.

“My talent has to be improved in all areas. Boxing is not a sport where you can be at a low level at all.

"I'm confident and when you have power like me, it relaxes your nerves.

"The Joshua Buatsi fight can build. If he is as confident as I am, it is a big event down the line.”

Fight Night: Anthony Yarde vs. Walter Gabriel Sequeira begins on BT Sport 3 HD from 7.30pm before switching over to BT Sport 1 HD and BT Sport 4K UHD from 8:45pm on Saturday night.
