Tottenham’s stadium is the front runner to host Anthony Joshua’s latest heavyweight title defence against Oleksandr Usyk.

Talks are at an advanced stage over a September date with Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the clear favourite having missed out on hosting, as planned, Joshua’s previous defence against Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua has turned his attention to facing WBO mandatory challenger Usyk after plans for an August heavyweight reunification fight against Tyson Fury fell apart when a judge in an arbitration hearing ordered Fury to fight Deontay Wilder for a third time.

Promoters Matchroom are hopeful that come September they will welcome a full house of 62,000 spectators for Joshua’s first fight since December.

Joshua had been scheduled to meet Pulev at Tottenham’s ground back in June, although the fight was delayed by six months and moved to the SSE Arena in Wembley.

A deal is expected to be signed in the coming weeks between both camps, and Usyk has started to goad Joshua, posting a video on Tuesday of him in hard training saying: “Hey Anthony, how are you?”

Eddie Hearn said it was only a matter of time before the deal was done: “It’s a high-level heavyweight fight. It’s a unified heavyweight champion against the undisputed cruiserweight champion, and on we go with that fight.”
