Bowyer's six of the worst

13 April 2012

Lee Bowyer is at the centre of an administrative foul-up today.

The Newcastle midfielder should have been heading off to Norway for a UEFA Cup third-round first-leg clash against Valerenga but still has to sit out a six-match ban stemming from his time at Leeds when he was found guilty of stamping on the head of Malaga's Gerardo during a UEFA Cup tie in December 2002.

Despite Newcastle playing two Champions League qualifying ties against Partizan Belgrade and four UEFA Cup matches against NAC Breda and Basle this season, Bowyer remains ineligible to play.

Newcastle blame the FA, claiming they were told that Bowyer's name need not be declared on the list of players submitted to UEFA.
