Bowman wins the Group 1 Crown Oaks on Samantha Miss

Hugh Bowman, who spent most of the 2007 Flat season as stable jockey with Mick Channon, wins the Group 1 Crown Oaks at Flemington Park today on Samantha Miss.

The Kris Lees-trained three-year-old suffered her only defeat when third in the Cox Plate last month and there had been doubts about her ability to last out the one-mile four-furlong Oaks trip.

But a three-length victory put paid to those fears. Lees, who is eyeing another crack at the Cox Plate next October, said: "She's great. She can stay, so she can win anything."
