Bosses head for Cup row with staff

More than 50 per cent of employers have decided not to make special arrangements for staff to watch England's World Cup football matches.

Despite warnings of mass absenteeism and contrary to government advice, three out of five employers have no intention of changing normal working arrangements, a survey of 116 private and public organisations carried out by the journal IRS Employment Review has found.

Others are more generous. Accountants BDO Stoy Hayward have invited all staff to watch England's match against Argentina on 7 June - and will even be providing refreshments.
