Bombshell revelations in Premiership bungs scandal

14 April 2012

The Premiership is facing a damaging corruption scandal after a senior figure has been caught on tape claiming both he and his boss accepted illegal payments.

One top agent and three clubs were targeted by an undercover BBC probe that claims to have uncovered serious financial irregularities.

According to the Sun newspaper, the accused clubs have been contacted by the investigators on the BBC's Panorama programme to answer questions about allegations of "tapping up" players. This is an illegal approach to a player which bypasses the club his is contracted to. The clubs' lawyers are looking at the claims.

Panorama set up a bogus company to hook an agent and suggested it was interested in buying his business for £1.5million. He was asked to prove he could set up introductions and deals with managers and agents. The agent concerned made a number of allegations, which could rock professional football if proven.

The BBC is current working on the programme which is due to be broadcast on 18 September.
