Bojinov return boosts City

12 April 2012

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes believes the return of striker Valeri Bojinov after serious injury problems is a major boost for the club.

The 23-year-old Bulgarian is looking to kick on after making his first league start in 19 months in the 1-0 victory against Sunderland.

"Valeri holds the ball up really well and as he gets stronger and into the swing of playing games he will get even better," Hughes told the Manchester Evening News.

Bought by Sven-Goran Eriksson for £6million from Fiorentina in 2007, Bojinov suffered cruciate ligament damage and then a ruptured Achilles.

But he has come through his latest comeback with flying colours, much to Hughes' delight.

"There is no doubt that he is going to be a good option for us in the remaining games and for next season," the manager added.

"His best position is right up against the centre halves on the edge of the box where his ability on the ball and awareness of players around him will have real effect."
