Bjorn backs Faldo to do it his way

12 April 2012

Thomas Bjorn knows all about rocking the Ryder Cup boat after his amazing outburst against Ian Woosnam last year - but in his new role the Dane has said he supports Nick Faldo "all the way", regardless of what Europe's captain has had to say about Colin Montgomerie.

In addition to saying it was "disappointing" that Montgomerie missed three team meetings at the recent Seve Trophy Faldo commented: "Monty's a tough one. He was the only one whose emotions I had to deal with."

Two weeks ago Bjorn was voted in as the chairman of the European Tour's tournament committee, the body which recommends Ryder Cup captains, and he said: "He's the captain, he's going to make the decisions, like it or not. We're not going to remove him as captain, so that's the way it's going to be."

He added: "I wasn't in that team room (at the Seve Trophy), so I don't know what went on. It seemed like the boys were getting on really well. I know all the youngsters that were there were really up for it and enjoyed the week.

"I've said all along we are going to get behind Nick as a Ryder Cup captain because that's the most important thing for all of us. We're going to get behind Nick 100% and support him in what he does.

"Monty was a fantastic captain in the Seve Trophy and now it's Nick's turn to do things. I'm quite sure when it comes down to it that Monty will be behind him as well.

"Monty and Faldo have done things their way in their whole career and they will sort it out in their way. They are winners, both of them, and I'm sure Nick will win the way he wants to win.

"He's always done it that way. It's not for me (to get involved). It's for them to sort it out themselves."
