Big lift for struggling Rovers

Graeme Souness believes Blackburn have struck a psychological blow in their battle to avoid the drop. Consecutive defeats had plunged them back into the bottom three of the Premiership but the manner of their 2-0 victory over Southampton last night bodes well for the side.

Souness said: "Psychologically it was a big three points for us. It's a big win and it gets us back out of the bottom three. We have Chelsea at home next, which won't be easy, but this should give us confidence, as it is winning one of our games in hand on the rest of the teams around us.

Damien Duff, the Republic of Ireland winger, scored the first with a solo effort then created the second for Yordi.
