Benazzi misery for Saracens

Chris Jones13 April 2012

Saracens captain Abdel Benazzi will discover the extent of his knee injury today.

The Frenchman was carried off 45 minutes into Saracens' Powergen Cup clash with Rotherham yesterday and may have suffered cruciate ligament damage in his right knee.

The injury - the latest in an horrendous list of casualties at the club - took the gloss off Saracens' 43-17 win which earned them a quarter- final against Northampton.

Chief executive Francois Pienaar said: "He has got to have a scan today. It is just incredibly frustrating. I just don't know what to do - these injuries are just ridiculous."

Wasps were knocked out by holders Newcastle, Jonny Wilkinson kicking an injury-time drop goal to secure a 24-22 win.

London Irish beat Bath 20-12 to earn a home tie with Gloucester while Harlequins, beaten finalists last year, will be home to Leicester.
