Beckham out of Texas clash

12 April 2012

David Beckham will not travel to Texas for Tuesday's SuperLiga game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and FC Dallas.

Beckham's troublesome ankle injury has not improved and the 32-year-old midfielder will remain in Los Angeles with the hope of being able to play against Toronto FC next Sunday - the game earmarked for his MLS debut.

"He will not be travelling to Dallas," Galaxy spokesman Patrick Donnelly told PA SportsTicker. "(Coach) Frank (Yallop) is looking to have him travel to Toronto, but it all depends on the health of his ankle."

Beckham has been receiving treatment daily on the problem - first suffered while playing for England on June 6 - since making his debut as a late substitute for the Galaxy against Chelsea nine days ago.

Beckham is yet to train with his team-mates and he has missed two previous SuperLiga games against Pachuca on July 24 and Chivas on Saturday, although Beckham was named as a substitute for the latter game.

The Galaxy beat Pachuca 2-1, but lost Saturday's game 2-1, leaving them needing a victory in Frisco on Tuesday to secure a place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Although the wait for Beckham's full debut is frustrating for the Galaxy, the club is eager not to rush the former England captain.

Beckham has signed a five-year contract potentially worth $250 million with the club, which is anxious not to risk such an investment.
