Bates backs Wise to spearhead revival

12 April 2012

Leeds chairman Ken Bates has given his backing to Dennis Wise despite the club being all but certainties for relegation to League One, insisting the manager had to work with "difficulties he inherited".

Saturday's 1-1 draw with Ipswich at Elland Road, combined with Hull's 1-0 win at Cardiff, leaves Leeds three points behind Hull and needing to complete a goal difference swing of nine to survive at the Tigers' expense.

Bates told the Yorkshire Post: "Dennis has done a much better job than many people realise. We were in a much worse position when Dennis came in than people know about. Some of the difficulties he inherited cannot be made public, but there were real problems in the dressing room. The playing side was in complete disarray."
