Bates anger at FA on Bosnich

Mark Bosnich: the Chelsea keeper's future is still undecided

Ken Bates has accused the Football Association of dragging their feet over Mark Bosnich's positive drugs test for cocaine.

The comments from the Chelsea chairman are the first from the club since their £2million-a-year goalkeeper tested positive last month.

Chelsea are still waiting, after five weeks, for the B sample to be tested to see if it confirms the A sample. Normally this procedure is completed within two weeks.

Bates believes the FA should have acted to bring the controversy to a quicker conclusion. "We have to rely on the FA and they should have resolved it by now.

"Either he's innocent and can come back to play for us, or he's guilty and we have to look at taking some action.

"The FA are dragging their heels and it's not fair to the player. They have been preoccupied by one or two other little things like funding the new national stadium and the National Football Centre," he told Channel 4's Sport Talk. If the B sample confirms the presence of cocaine, Chelsea will terminate Bosnich's contract for serious misconduct.

He has been suspended by the club without pay until the testing process is complete.
