Basile claims English offer

12 April 2012

Former Argentina coach Alfio Basile claims he has been approached with an offer to join an English club.

Basile made his claim on television channel TyC Sports.

The 65-year-old said: "I have offers from England and from the United Arab Emirates, which I am currently studying."

The 65-year-old did not name the English club but did reveal it was not in London.

Basile has had two spells in charge of his native Argentina, from 1991 to 1994, when he led the national team at the World Cup, and from 2006 until October of this year, when he was replaced by Diego Maradona.

He added: "I want to continue coaching. I don't know why some people write that I am finished. I think that I will return to work in June or July."
