Barcelona confirm van Bommel deal

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel.

The 28-year-old Holland international, who has in the past been linked with a move to the Premiership, has agreed a three-year contract with the Spanish giants, who won their first Primera Liga title since 1999 last weekend.

Van Bommel will officially join Barca on July 1 after his contract with PSV runs out, although he will link up with his new team-mates in mid-June after representing Holland in their World Cup qualifier against Finland.

A number of clubs around Europe had been linked with Van Bommel but Barcelona revealed they had secured the player's future well before Wednesday's announcement.

"Following an agreement between Barcelona and the player, it was decided that the news would not be made public until today, after the team had won the league title," Barcelona confirmed the signing on their website.
