Aussies under pressure

13 April 2012

Australia face a record-breaking run chase tomorrow to win the fourth and final Test against India and give retiring skipper Steve Waugh a triumphant swansong.

India declared their second innings on 211 for two to set Australia a target of 443 on Waugh's home ground in Sydney. Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden will resume on 10 without loss.

Despite leading by 231 runs, India did not to enforce the follow-on and both Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar hit unbeaten half-centuries.

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble had earlier finished with eight for 141 to move into 10th place on the all-time list of wicket-takers. The 33-year-old also became the first bowler to take eight wickets in an innings in Sydney for 106 years.

His performance overshadowed Simon Katich's maiden Test hundred and a record 117-run eighth-wicket partnership with Jason Gillespie.
