Aussies select spin pair

13 April 2012

The Australian selectors have opted for two spinners for the fifth Test against the West Indies starting in Sydney on Tuesday - leaving paceman Andrew Bichel as the 12th man.

With the SCG wicket promising to assist the slow men - off-spinner Colin Miller and leg-spinner Stuart MacGill will start as the Aussies attempt to score a whitewash against the tourists.

MacGill was 12th man in last week's Melbourne Test, allowing Bichel to claim his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

The West Indies are delaying naming their team until they check on the injury to opening batsman Daren Ganga.

The 21-year-old has a sore foot and captain Jimmy Adams says he will be given until tomorrow morning to prove his fitness.

And Adams stated that leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo could come in for the first time in the series as a replacement for injured fast bowler Mervyn Dillon.

Team: Australia - Steve Waugh (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Jason Gillespie, Stuart MacGill, Colin Miller, Glenn McGrath, Andy Bichel (12th man).
