The world’s fastest man is returning to London, with Usain Bolt announcing his intention to compete at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium this month.

Bolt, who won triple sprint gold there in 2012, has not competed individually in Britain since returning for the inaugural Anniversary Games in 2013, in which he won the 100m in 9.85sec.

The six-time Olympic champion has had a troubled start to the season as he recovers from a leg injury. But organisers have been in talks with Bolt for some months, with the deal effectively sealed by George Osborne’s Budget on Wednesday, which allowed tax breaks for visiting athletes for the two-day Diamond League meeting.

“London is a special place and I am looking forward to the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games,” said Bolt. “I have great memories of competing in the Olympic Stadium and previous grands prix meetings in London. The British fans are always great and I expect there will also be a lot of Jamaican fans in the stadium. It will be amazing to put on another great show under the floodlights on July 24.”

Super Saturday trio Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford have all committed themselves to the event.
