Arsenal pair on comeback trail

Steve Stammers13 April 2012

Arsenal's David Seaman and Tony Adams return to action tomorrow as they attempt comebacks from long-term injuries.

Goalkeeper Seaman and captain Adams are due to play for the reserves against Fulham and if they come through unscathed they will turn out again next Monday in another reserve game.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hoping the pair will be available for the Premiership match away to Everton on Sunday week .

Seaman has been out since late September when he had surgery on a shoulder injury.

But he has been able to train fully for the last week and is feeling no discomfort.

Adams has had a foot injury and, if fit, would make a welcome return at Everton as fellow centre-half Martin Keown is suspended for that game.

Arsenal go to Blackburn tomorrow night with injury worries over midfielders Patrick Vieira (ankle) and Robert Pires (back).

Meanwhile, the parliamentary all-party football group will recommend to the Football Association the threat of ground closures as a deterrent against crowd trouble.

The group's chairman, Alan Keen MP, feels such action would reduce the prospect of a repeat of the coin-throwing which marred Sunday's FA Cup tie between Arsenal and Liverpool.

He said: "The threat of ground closure should be held over these people and I will communicate that view to the football authorities."

At Highbury on Sunday a coin was thrown at Jamie Carragher. The Liverpool defender then hurled it back into the crowd and was sent off as a result.

The Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident and one of the supporters hit by the coin thrown by Carragher, 37-year-old Julian Bird, said today: "He should be prosecuted."
