Anxious wait for Flintoff

12 April 2012

Andrew Flintoff has travelled to Jamaica for a scan on his side strain.

England all-rounder Flintoff was pulled out of the opening match of the Caribbean tour on Sunday evening after reporting discomfort in his left side. The 31-year-old's place in the team was taken by Stuart Broad after England were granted permission by the St Kitts and Nevis team.

Flintoff will return to the England team hotel on Monday evening and the results of the scan - which management stress is being undertaken as a precautionary measure - are expected on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, England declared on their overnight 424 for eight, leaving Owais Shah unbeaten on 125.

Shah was unable to take the field at the start of the second day, however, due to blurred vision, so Graeme Swann was another to deputise in a contest the tourists requested to be an 11-a-side affair.

Paceman Steve Harmison claimed the only breakthrough in the opening hour as teenager Kejel Tyson edged behind and wicketkeeper Matt Prior clung on to a spectacular one-handed catch.

The hosts took drinks at 51 for one.
